Thanks for this inoculation for the fascist virus.

This was particularly incisive. Even without a proposed "solution" it stimulates thinking - what can be done! Here's hope you will keep this fire burning, and we can share with broader audiences.

Stellar. Truly. Thank you.

Right wing media won't care that their message is racist, misogynistic and fascist. They're not out to win converts -that dog won't hunt.

They'll ramp up already volatile incitement of young white male followers into believing their very identities are at risk, and that this will be their "final chance to take action."

The results won't be pretty, and will take everything we've got to overcome.

But we shall overcome.

I'm wondering how all the very predictable and blatantly racist and anti-woman attacks by tRump and others will sit with Hillbilly's wife, a woman who shares partially the same ethnic background as VP Harris. In fact, what will be Hillbilly's own response, coz he'll be asked.

But, as anyone who works for tRump knows, one just takes what's given out, however reprehensible it may be to one's own sensibilities, even if one's family is indirectly attacked...just the cost of doing business with the Orange Slug.

I hope rather than acting defensively, she continuously puts the spotlight on the opposing candidate and hammers on the numerous ways he is unfit. How dare he attempt to gaslight any one else. 🤬

I remember what they did to John Kerry and what they did to Howard Dean. How come we can’t figure out a solution to this!? It really pissed me off then and continues to now. I think the answer might be to keep on the offensive and keep the focus on all the horrible things that they say. It must be so exhausting to be in such constant state of hate fueled distress. You’d think that they’d want relief.

You are right about whack-a-mole on twitter being useless.

Our real challenge is to stay out ahead of the MSM - pummel the NYT and Washington Post the minute they start advancing the bullshit.

I've been thinking about controlling assumptions and changing the narratives and how to think fast enough to see the actions from over head , how to recognize the pivots, moving goal posts and applying ridicule to these situations.

Mayor Pete videos are a great place to study the patterns.

The dynamic is always attack first. Throw people onto their back foot and trigger the defensive reply, the "that's not true" endless stomp out the lies, which can never catch up.

One piece of insight I hadn't realized--until I heard the same exact word phrasing within multiple conversations repeating the same exact words and phrases- in my conversation with a GOP acquaintance, with friend's GOP family member--that the talking points machine--the lock step GOP message-- gets dropped way far down into the population that participates. It's not just at a coordinated Congressional level, it's full up and down the foodchain, fed to anyone who engages...

My plan for up coming anticipated while- on- vacation provocative remarks is not to engage in a reply but name the actions. (Should I choose to do so, or feel ornery enough to engage).

I've been rehearsing in my head as, for instance, when DEI references are the message of the day, "Boy, I gotta say you are one loyal dutiful foot soldier to carry that talking point forward"

"Tell me about those big DEI levers in the voting booths--how does DEI work when people are elected?"

Or "You are so good! Nice pivot, what a great new talking point? How long has that been out"

Or "Isn't it heavy to carry those goal posts a new direction?

Or instead of engaging, answer a provocation with "Ok, now do GOP!"

I am not above needling my GOP friend who is unexpectedly stepping up and parenting his granddaughters. If Project 2025 goes through and abortions AND contraceptives get eliminated,

he can look forward to parenting GREAT granddaughters.

What is the Over/Under on how long it takes some GOP talking head to reference Dr. Claudine Gay? Isn't she one of their favorite "DEI" gateways?

My thoughts exactly re Kamala and MAGA attacks. We need to be extremely disciplined and not give any oxygen to the BS that's about to come at us from every direction. Thanks for articulating this so well (I plan to quote you in my newsletter tomorrow).

A particularly incisive comment - let's hope it generates lots of messages based on fact, democracy, and the power of speaking truth, whether the issue is opposing Netanyahu, supporting Kamala Harris, defeating the Maga machine, supporting Palestinians, or another of the many good peoples and issues.

I have complete faith and trust that the Party of Trump and their media will be absolutely incapable of controlling themselves. Less trial balloon, more being triggered to be themselves. Harris is a woman of color who went the career route instead of the motherhood route. (That is not meant in any sort of dismissive way.) That is way too much for them. Every time she’s seen doing anything, they’re just going lose yet more of their shit.

The ultimate problem is that media cannot both show them in action and cover up for them. Acknowledging them necessarily showing how repulsive they are.

The game of Trump steamrolling Biden is over. He and his supporters—politicians, media, etc.—are going to have to work now. (Not saying that Trump’s tailwinds are significantly affected by this.)

That said, I think the really important question is: will Biden give Sulzberger and Kahn his sole exit interview? After all their efforts to bring us to this point…
