Joyce Vance had a brilliant column on the "no-bill" phenomenon, suggesting a way that ordinary citizens, sitting on a grand jury, can stifle nonsense "felony"indictments, ending with the inability of Jeanine Perro to indict a Subway sandwich"!
The government is grabbing people off the street and putting them in deportation camps and that is ok. But tossing a sandwich is taking up the brain power of our current DOJ resources? Let that sink in MAGA.
I assume the DC Hero Sandwich Hero Thrower can be dragged before another grand jury, no?
As for Cook, the Fed and the Roberts junta: My recollection is that the junta kind of only suggested that the Fed’s independence protected it from our beloved Fuhrer’s whims. I wouldn’t take that statement or whatever to suggest that when actually presented with the actual issue they’ll back the Fed’s independence over Donny’s whims and lashing out and stuff.
As always with Donny, Roberts (for one) has the long time SCOTUS concern by having decisions ignored. The ur-example, I suppose, is Brown v Bd of Ed I. And you know Donny will ignore every order and decision he doesn’t like.
As noted above, feds tried three times, with three different GJ presentations, to indict on phony felony charges another DC resident caught up in an ICE melee, and failed thrice. "Fake it 'til you make it" ain't working in DC!
Americans haven't had to deal with an out-of-control crazy sovereign before, so we have little experience with why Grand Juries were originally created in England.
They were not created so a prosecutor could indict a ham sandwich, but rather so the ham sandwich could get away free.
The Grand Jury is the bulwark in law against the out-of-control sovereign, to keep bullshit indictments like these from proceeding. It's good to see that ours can operate as designed, even without the citizens knowing that's their job.
I'm afraid it's pretty convoluted. Steve Vladeck is quite skilled at explaining the most complicated legal entanglements, and he has a new piece on this that might help clear things up for you, including why it's significant: https://www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-174-playing-the-justices-for
The entirety of what you've written here is dispiriting to say the least. None of this is being done in my name, from my own perspective, but it's all happening just the same.
The AFL CIO protest has a slight slant towards worker's rights, while the MayDay protest leans more into civilian rights. Each speaks out against the Trump Regime.
Both have marches and rallies, while the AFL CIO is also hosting picnics and parades. They each share some of the same local events. Why not attend both?

Donny’s keystone cops are so fucking bad they can’t even indict a sandwich
Attack with a sloppy weapon ... Grease stains instead of blood stains!

We can retire that truism that a prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.
"Assault with a deli weapon" -- outstanding. You made my day.
The Earl of Sandwich v. The Prince of Orange

The government can, apparently, indict a HAM sandwich, but not a SALAMI sandwich.

So they’ll try again with the Hero Sandwich Hero.
You can’t say No to Donny, so likewise his DOJ, I guess.

Could you please explain the significance of the thread of the day for us non-lawyers?

And who said anybody could indict a ham sandwich? But seriously, here is why Trump does all the shit he does:

I believe Samuel Alito made the ham sandwich remark.
