Before last November's election, there was much discussion and warnings about how tRump would handle a looming international crisis if installed as president, with his chaotic response to the Covid epidemic serving as a benchmark for ineptness. Well, voters, it's FAFO time, now isn't it? Are we all encouraged by tRump's actions to date vis-à-vis Iran and Israel's unilateral assaults on the country? Do we feel that tRump actually grasps the consequences of whatever decisions he makes? But ultimately, do we know who actually is IN CHARGE of our government at this parlous moment?

Surely it must be vividly apparent that this man has NO idea what to do, and apparently is taking guidance from FoxNews commentators, who are to a person urging "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran!", and if past is indeed prologue, bombing Iran will be the decision...that is, if Iran doesn't UNCONDITIONALLY SURRENDER!, as he tweeted in full caps.

He's failed in halting the Russia-Ukraine war, failed to bring peace in Gaza, bollixed up his tariff war, and now another disaster in the making. How can it possibly get any worse? But, we were warned.

Lance, There is no way that Trump can serve even two more years president as his mental condition worsens. That means actual decisionmaking will likely get done by a committee of insiders. Running operations will likely be J.D. Vance or Marco Rubio. Vance may be next in line by law but Rubio has more powerful allies. It's unclear to me how willing Trump will be to have decisions made by others, but in some stages of dementia the patient becomes withdrawn and fatalistic about who is directing affairs.

don't forget Miller. Hegseth is likely to be more of a tool than anyone in on the running of things.

Quote Of The Day

“I may do it, I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do.”–Donald Trump, on potential U.S. military strike on Iran, which he has reportedly approved plans for but hasn’t given the final order to launch

This needs to be more widely posted; it caught my attention yesterday. This President talks about initiating war the way he might talk about attending brunch this Saturday.

Bears repeating that Sillsnce the reconstruction era following our Civil War an overwhelming majority of the domestic terrorism involving violence or the threats of violence has been due to perpetrators on the right. There are periods of relatively low activity but in times of rapid change and general unrest the incidences rise. We are in one of those periods. I would guess it's been going on since well before 2016. We are a very violent society and not all the violence: the mass shootings, the school shootings etc are politically motivated. The majority are not. What's new and very troubling to me is that now such violence is beginning to be condoned and encouraged and even legally pardoned by one political faction who is of course on the Right. They are like parents who coddle, pamper and encourage their violent children.

We probably need to go back further, to the start of his first term. The only thing that kept him in check at that time were the other members of the administration. His takeaway… I’m picking my own guys this time and nobody is stopping me. Well, he was right. Nobody stopped him even though most blatantly lied to get the job(s). Now it is coming back to haunt us, especially the Republicans, but we are all paying the price.

my social media (well, Facebook) is set to "private" because I'm hiding FROM something: the bevy of deeply Christian high military folks, widowed, who admire me so much but their friend request doesn't go through. This happens whenever I let something be posted publicly. I have NO IDEA why anyone would think a Christian general would attract me. But out of the woodwork they come. With a profile at LEAST 2 weeks old but rarely longer.

Can't Rubio just ask the applicant to sign in and look at stuff there? Do you lose a visa if you FAIL to respond to the damn Christian generals??

Arguably the worst day in American History was March 1, 1991 when it was reported that President Geo HW Bush had a 91% approval rating over his handling of the 1st Gulf War.

That's the Holy Grail. The White Whale.

We all know that DJT knows this. Of course we're going to war.
