The compact is broken, we are in a ciivl war. The Confederacy has killed people and will continue, it might be only a matter of time before it escalates into full blown madness.
I believe Paul Krugman has observed that the Trump regime pursues essentially bogus legal actions against people it targets for a simple reason. They are sending a message that they will make life impossible for anyone who resists. It’s about intimidation, not law ‘enforcement’.
Going to go off brand and be almost optimistic: I give Cook a 40% chance of winning her case.
Of course, if she loses, there’ll be mass firings of the FOMC then a similar purge of anyone eligible to be on it.
But more optimism; I can make a case that when our beloved Fuhrer gets his way and the Fed gives him 1% rates, it’ll be a smaller disaster than the pundits are fearing. Too, low, low, low rates is what our leaders do to enable workers who don’t get a living wage for full time work to get by. You know, instead of mandating a living wage or anything else that helps people in the face of neoliberal extraction and exploitation.
The media has let him get away with essentially everything. Likewise, but somewhat less so, the national Democrats who have given the Republicans pass after pass since Clinton and his moving the party to the right.
SCOTUS has a long time legit problem of dropping decisions that get ignored obviously impacting their credibility and power. The first Brown v Bd of Ed is the historic example when people tell SCOTUS to fuck off. It’s a problem for the Roberts junta and Trump.
We're all geezers over here here! I'm 77 and I and my wife are living on SS, a generous government pension, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc but most of my life I lived month to month and have never lost sight of what's like to be in the financial bottom half.

The AFL CIO protest has a slight slant towards worker's rights, while the MayDay protest leans more into civilian rights. Each speaks out against the Trump Regime.
Both have marches and rallies, while the AFL CIO is also hosting picnics and parades. They each share some of the same local events. Why not attend both?

The mayor called it an illegal coup. The ACLU and NAACP were in court within hours. From the very beginning of this term, Americans have met Trump’s overreach with noise, lawsuits, and protests."

You have to go down seven subheads of brazenly unconstitutional behavior, before you finally call a spade and label the Cook firing. Much of what lies above is at least as egregious.
Is “occupation” the right word for a sovereign government utilizing its sovereign power over territory that unquestionably belongs to it? What Trump is doing is evil, but I am worried about what it means when we stretch important words beyond all possible meaning. (A trend on the left recently that I’ve found incredibly disturbing.) Two things can both be bad without being equivalent, and if we can’t accurate identify a problem, we can’t solve it.
I don't think "occupation" is, standing alone, the right word. That's why I modified it: "Trumpian occupation" and "Trump is pretending to occupy." I think that captures the mix of performative strutting without minimizing the actual transgression.
To both JJ and David: Can Trump 'invade' a state with troops? in JJs view he cannot since a state is already under his governance/jurisdiction. But in the sense of "invade" meaning to go where not invited, where discouraged or told not to, as in the sense of home invasion then Trump can be said to invade cities or states such as Chicago or California. Trump invaded DC with the intent to militarily occupy it.
The former was the act. The latter was the outcome of the act. The morality/culpability lies in the act.
I guess all that DHS message data must be hidden in the same vault they hid the Secret Service texts and emails from January 6

G Graff's call is accurate.

Pre-emptive obedience. "Vorauseilender Gehorsam" as the Nazis termed it

It depends on how bad inflation gets I guess. Of course it's better if you can afford a $20 coffee than if you can't afford a $5 one.
What I’m seeing is that interest rates aren’t as essential for businesses as they used to be which is where the problem rises.
So, yes, giving Donny his 1% rate would of course be inflationary but, again, not as disastrous as would be feared.
It’s why I’m referring to Donny as a TOFU man: Trump Only Fucks Up.
But he is also the TEFLON donald and when he fucks up his lapdog Court lets him get away with it.

Oof! At rates of 1%, this would kill our monthly income derived from a mix of 3mos/12mos Treasuries that currently average over 4.6%...brutal!!
Bro, you a sub-1%er living on interest income??
Nope, just two old seniors living on SS and some short-term bond funds.
Fellow dotard?!

Pretty much the same.
72, spent the past few decades living a sort of boojie lifestyle but not quite orthodox boojie.
And if I had to go back to the prior month to month lifestyle, no problem.
Really, at this age a lot of focus is on simplifying and getting rid of stuff.
Amen, brother!
