I’m willing to give Team Comey for putting on a hell of a show criminal litigation-wise.
But!
All the entertainment so to speak doesn’t outweigh his complicity in playing a crucial role in Trump getting elected in 2016.
Again with the flashbacking…
FBI bureau offices work relatively independently from the central office in DC.
The NYC office at the time was under the thrall or influence of its former chief, James Kallstrom. Who was a Trump buddy.
How good a Trump buddy?
Trump promised to make a donation to a veterans’ charity under circumstances i no longer remember. The charity he chose was Kallstrom’s. Which no one had ever heard of. In part, because there was no record of said charity ever making any contributions.
Which is to say it stunk of a grift.
(Trump is alleged to have been a snitch for the NYC FBI office at one time.)
Comey made no meaningful effort to get the NYC office under control.
The then-POTUS made no effort to get his FBI director under control.
Fun fact: Clinton’s system for handling State emails was a lot better what her predecessors, Rice and Powell, used. They used public services; I forget which exactly but like AOL, Yahoo!, etc. We know how good their security has been. But of course, Republicans always get a pass.
And of course Comey went and did all over again just before the election to slag Clinton at the last minute. Again with Obama’s tacit OK.
Now, a counter history of sorts.
Lets say Clinton was elected and it was then found that the security of email servers had been breached, by bad actors, to a serious degree. First, though a pause: It’s been long-determined that no such thing happened. But query: You think that would have been seriously impeachable?
Actually maybe, but not seriously. Let’s look at the recent record:
Lying about sex with a woman other than the First Lady? Impeachable.
Taking the oath of office in bad faith. No.
J6? No.
Starting and maintaining an unjustifiable war because of insane ego, bribes and continued self-enrichment? No.
Still, doubtful that the servers would have resulted in an impeachment had Clinton had been elected.
So submitting to the NYC office re the emails generally and more so in October 2016 was inexcusable full stop.
So sure, I’m enjoying the entertainment but come on, Comey’s earned all the shit he’s being dragged through.
Has anybody worked in a restaurant? When the house is out of Cherry pie everybody will chirp, "86 cherry pie." The overwhelming implication is that anybody who says "8647" wants us to be rid of the Trump presidency which is pretty much all of your readers. Are we complicit? When the score in my pickleball game is 8-6 I always say, "8-6 Trump" which means I desperately want him to be gone from the White House and does not mean that I wish his or anybody else's death, demise or harm. I can understand why underworld folks who often have food businesses as financial cover would mockingly say, "86 Joey" when Joey's life expectancy diminishes but that is clearly a minority usage of the term and a dark humor that probably helps them cope with the reality of the job they chose.
I really wish that every time journalists describe these kinds of antics they give an estimate of just how much it’s costing us taxpayers. Just today I was looking at articles about the US paying a billion dollars to aFrench company to give up their rights to offshore drilling sites. All of them framed this as the Trump administration, not us taxpayers coughing up that money.
trump is still upset that despite wearing lifters in his Florsheims, James Comey always towered over him, which trump took as "intimidation" and "showing him up"...well, that's my theory, and I'm sticking with it,
The complete waste of time, resources and money to go after Comey is such a travesty! But there isn’t sufficient money to help Americans with healthcare, education etc. Disgusting ‘
Bumbling clowns! Despicable use of investigative resources by a despicable, destructive, vindictive fool!😤
David, thanks for the semi deep dive here. Very illuminating, but not surprising.
I think we should start Polymarket bets on what Trump's secret service code name is. I am betting on "Pedo".

And it's US taxpayers who are funding all this nonsense. Grotesque.
