"It’s not just the performative dick-swinging that is the dangling subtext to all of Trump foreign policy that is driving this new imperative."

This is a perfect sentence.

In what universe are countries for sale? Trump/Rubio talk as if they are playing a game of Monopoly, only with real world consequences. Do they know how absurd they sound? Do they care?

To be fair, The US bought Alaska from Russia and The Louisiana Purchase from France. In those cases, though, the seller was willing.

This is quite different. It's all insane, directed by a man who's never been quite sane at any time, and enabled by a bunch of others, each of whom has their own psychological issues. And they, both governmentally and privately, own the guns.

Does Trump actually have a vision? He doesn't seem smart enough to think about anything strategically. I often wonder how much this is Stephen Miller and Bannon laying this all out.

Jen Psaki basically called Trump’s vision just his search for the next dopamine rush. Makes sense. And then his opportunists rush in for the hit.

Still trying to get my head round the Generalissimo's order to Venezuela to sell 30-50 mil bbl of crude at market-price, but HE will have full ownership of the proceeds, and HE will determine where the proceeds go. I mean, WTF? To his "ballroom" fund? trump "library" fund? One or more of trump PACs? Or, very unlikely, to the US Treasury Dept.? No one knows, and nobody is asking. Two to three billion dollars? Huh?

First, way too appropriate Tuchman reference in the title. Much appreciated.

Second, there's so much to chew on in the entire article that I'll just focus on the Greenland part.

[The White House said that “utilizing the U.S. Military is always an option, and U.S. officials said that Trump has asked for an updated plan for acquiring Greenland.]

Since invading any foreign territory and violating national sovereignty is illegal by international law, the UN Charter, and, hence, US law as well, doesn't planning for how to do it qualify as a conspiracy to violate those laws, and itself violate US law? It might be a bit of a reach, but it does open up everybody involved, all the way to the top, to impeachment, and/or arrest and trial in the future. Yeah, fantasy-land thinking at this time and with this SCOTUS, especially while the GOP controls all Branches and the DoJ. Still, this adds to the mountain of unlawful sin they're already carrying and have been since Day One of Trump One, up through the extradudicial boat executions and the violation of Venezuela. If the nation is to survive, if the Constitution is to continue to form the basis of American law and government, they must be held accountable, each and every one of them, as soon as possible - possibly 2029 - even if the only lever to apply is conspiracy. And we need to find a way to manage to survive until then.

This is the most important task of self-preservation America has had since the War of 1812. Each and every possibility has to be considered, and used. We cannot afford to waver on it.

The WH Jan6 revisionism and counter-intuitive propaganda comes on the heels of the Jack Smith Congressional testimony and 8hr video that forcefully and unapologetically puts gangland boss trump as the centerpiece of the MAGA mob storming of the Capitol. Now, over time and in the history books, which version will prevail? "Jack Smith Volume I for a $1000, Alex".

The drive to "trump-brand" entities outside of US borders remains high on the regime's must-do list, in order to satisfy its delusional, early-onset AD-addled Supremo. trump unbound is at his most dangerous right now, with his court advisors urging him ever forward,

You ain't seen nuthin' yet, folks.

What a lineup David!

Maybe Greenland should

consider sending Landry

back to LA and closing

down the military base,

or possibly replacing all

the US soldiers with a

NATO force. It's evident

the US doesn't want to

belong to NATO

anymore and frankly, at

this point in time, I doubt

the US would be missed

very much. There are

more than 5 countries

that belong to NATO.

Money from the Ven oil

will go to Trump. Let's

not try to fool anyone on

this. These Venezuelans

are "brown" people and

snake Miller will make

sure they don't see a

"You have to fight like

"...we are the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere"

Trust a southern white male, product of way too much hillbilly inbreeding, to be dumb enough to tell the truth.

We need to get into a catastrophe - it's the only way we can overthrow this regime and put MAGA in the trashcan. It took World War II to defang the Germans. We have been the "predator force in the Western Hemisphere" since the first colonists arrived at Jamestown.

One more comment:

[OLC: The DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel continues to be a rubber stamp for President Trump’s maximalist assertions of executive power, reportedly cranking out a memo that declared it lawful for him to order the seizure of President Maduro.]

The OLC's pronouncements have zero legal force. And this Administrations; OLC, in addition, has negative moral authority.

Well, with our bases there we’ve already invaded so…

If Donny wants it that bad, he’ll get it.
