Why hasn't a senator put a hold on Bove's nomination? Do holds no longer exist?

DOJ? How about "DOA", since justice as we know it had died last January 20, tRump's swearing in date.

What a beautiful tribute to Colbert. I have enjoyed him for many years.

The Colbert Report (and Daily Show) got me through the Bush jr. years and now his Late Show opening monologues are helping a lot with Trump 2.0, even though the end-times illiberal extremes have increased dramatically. Colbert is a mensch; CBS/Paramount corporate cowards.

The end of the Late Show may involve Trump or it may much more likely involve the longtime imploding of broadcast and cable TV audiences. Can’t bring in much with commercial fees if there’s no eyeballs to sell.

Too, CBS/Paramount doesn’t have sugar daddies like most TV outlets have. So, maybe dissing Trump was a factor, but you can’t underestimate the awful economics CBS has.

As for all the legal misbehavior by Donny et al, I’ll echo David and reference the Deacon/Litman draft paper:

Referencing but can’t recommend too much pending a final draft.

For the very first time I've lost my optimism. Up to this last week I've been confident the coup wouldn't succeed: the pushback from the people, the judiciary and the media would overcome it and that internal dissension and Trump's mental illness would fatally weaken its impetus. Now I'm no longer sure we will take back the House at the midterms or even win back the presidency in 2028. It seems America is on a very road.

With the Bove Nom...now out of committee...any other options Sen. Dems have to grind his nomination to a halt, procedurally?

Will all the DOJ bad actors who are acting illegally at the moment ever be liable for criminal penalties? Is there any way they could be censured now? Will they ever be held accountable?

Also, is anyone keeping track of all the people who have been "disappeared" by ICE? Has there been any information about how immigrants are being targeted? Is it random?

Here’s my question for TPM and Josh:

Since early this year I have been following the progress of small groups of very dedicated people who were doing statistical analysis of the 2024 election. I am a retired biomedical research professor and I’m very comfortable with charts and graphs.

Their findings suggest that not only was the 2024 election hacked, but the hack altered the outcome of the presidential race and some senate and congressional races as well. It appears that 2024 was not an election. It was a coup d’etat!

There is already one lawsuit in New York asking for an audit of suspicious election results that is being fought tooth and nail by the Board of Elections, which seems like prima facia evidence of guilt to me.

This topic is so radioactive that a reporter for MeidasTouch, Jessica Denson, left because they wouldn’t cover the election fraud story.

SOMEBODY has to show the courage to break this story through so the majority of the country will know about it and so that more forensic audits can take place. I know the fear is civil war, but look at the alternative. Election fraud will not stop going forward. And if coups can be bloodless, so can civil wars. The truth needs to be exposed here by somebody with courage and credibility. Why not you?

So here is a question I've often wondered: Where do you all at TPM go to gain perspective? I mean that both in a larger, existential sense, but also in a more prosaic one: how do you check that you aren't caught in a feedback loop, bubble? Are there commentators, reporters that come from different ideological or political positions that you read and rely on?
