I have completely appreciated Morning Memo, since signing up. I find what you have done to be extremely useful; this world IS overwhelming right now and your work has been validating. That said, I will look forward to whatever path you choose going forward.

I definitely think you are putting yourself in the position of being of the most service to the majority of your readers. The enormous volume of important news out there is overwhelming and numbing. A newsletter like this one can't pass on all that is valuable- that's an impossible task. So TPM must ruthlessly but intelligently edit out all but the most important news to those stories that within their content subsume a lot of the other narratives going on all the time. The result is fewer stories but ones that carry greater freight. I completely trust your judgement.

I appreciate the efforts to broadly categorize what is being done to our country by this current administration. I find that helps me to better organize my own thinking about it. Thank you for your work to keep us informed with contextualized analysis. It matters!

It’s always an excellent read, David - and much appreciated in my inbox. This thoughtful recalibration is smart, and sharing its intention and goals respectful. I keep waiting for an explanation of how the juiciest parts of opinions are in the footnotes, a la Prof Esbeck. Funny how that gets more true over time… sadly, not all things we learned in law school have aged so well.

When context has been light in the past, you have always provided a link for more depth. I am always sad when I come to the end of your daily presentations but have thought to capture all the drama in this environment IS an impossible task. I look forward to hearing more analysis provided by you and your TPM cohorts!

Great to have you back and on board, David, although truly appreciated the work of your colleagues in your absence...MM is my go-to port-of-call when I open my tablet in the morning, and whatever is in store for MM in any future adjustments, I'm all in!

I am inundated with stuff to read; I can’t manage it all. But I subscribe here BECAUSE OF the analysis and contextualization, so do whatever you think is best.

Perhaps the big view is that the US is in civil war, or Cultural Revolution and so far evil is winning. Reporting in the early years of WWII were about struggles while little of hope was apparent.

That seems the case now, and there are no Allied troops.

There is value in collecting and publicizing wins when they happen.

As I tend to rant, one really needs to discriminate between performative bullshit from Trump and his clones on one hand and substantive matters. Would have been nice to devote more focus to the budget bill than idiotic statements from or on behalf of our beloved Fuhrer.

Related to that is the reality that many or most of those statements are, among other things, meant to distract so, you know, don’t oblige.

And here’s my perspective. Things will of course be bad but not as a rule as bad as we’re triggered to think.

Meanwhile, approximately none of the bad things will be fixed in any way by the political system given the lack of an opposition party appropriately interested in opposing and otherwise dealing with the GOP.

What we can do is mitigate the harms where we can, vote* and support progressive candidates and progressive agencies. (*The largest plurality of voters last cycle stayed at home and didn’t bother.)

Solidarity, community, and occasional deep breathing. Don’t lose your head.
