Well, as punitive and vindictive are the actions against John Bolton, a less sympathetic victim would be more difficult to find, as he was one of the foremost neocons in the Shrub era pushing for war across the Middle East, and has enjoyed a warmonger reputation for years. But, cross tRump, and one finds oneself bereft of allies, despite Bolton's deep connections in DC.
What can stop him from directing his FBI attack dogs to raid anyone's house, plant evidence, etc.? It seems the courts have been neutered by SCOTUS unconditional support for the regime
Agree, but Bolton wasn't just "anybody", he was one of Bush's attack dogs who went after people opposed to expanded wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and was a cheek-by-jowl associate with the PNAC/Perle/Wolfowitz gang...and so, tempted to say what goes around comes around.
Can't argue that. I, and the other old readers here remember him well from the Bush II era and afterwards. A notorious hawk and advocate for military interventions in his salad years. But at least he didn't raid people's homes. These are much darker times now.
Also, as other writers and posters noted elsewhere, The 'Stache refused to testify during one of tRump's impeachment hearings, preferring to confine any commentary to a forthcoming book, and not reveal any juicy bits that will appear later in print...thank you for your service, d-bag.
The raids on Bolton's office and home are terribly disturbing for me. There seems an ever increasing number of such pursuit and persecution of Trump's ideological enemies. I can easily imagine Obama, Biden, Schiff and many many others receiving the same treatment. This really reminds me of Nazi Germany.
Let this be a warning to all of our American citizens who may be on Trump's and his peoples revenge list. They will use the power of our government to cast you as some guilty person and make your life a hell. They will contort the laws of our land and use loopholes to justify their actions. They will find 'evidence' of your wrongdoing with fabricated findings. Kangaroo courts are a hallmark of authoritarians.
I tried… I mean, I looked at the Trump decision from the Appellate Division and… uh…
To be honest, I only parsed it to try to find what they actually ordered and… uhh… It looks like what they did was to opine on the lower court’s post-trial decision and had too big a mess of decisions to do anything more than (correctly, no doubt) assume that this case is going up to the state Court of Appeals.
But two points: The relief ordered by the trial court, to wit, $5b fine and a shut down of the Trump businesses, come on, that was great to see but in no way was it going to stick.
And to be clear, the App Div decision is not the end of the line here. Although Trump, being a foul, insane piece of #hit can be counted on to try (again) to move the case to the federal court after the Court of Appeals’ final ruling. The base for the transfer will of course be a frivolous request based on pure bullshit in order to delay things. Because that’s how scumbags litigate.
Don't understand the "excessive fine" being translated to "no fine". I mean, a monetary penalty was attached to the liability for business fraud as part of the punishment, ffs. If the Appellate Court agreed with Judge Engoron's original decision, then what in their minds would be a condign financial penalty?
Well, it seems that *no fine* is an adequate deterrent to commit further fraud...only in America, and only for tRump.
And, again, this is one step with the Court of Appeals to be heard from. As fragmented a decision as the App Div’s is of course possible from CANY but I wouldn’t expect it.
While it may be difficult to summon much sympathy for Bolton, this is real banana republic stuff. I would like to know who perjured themselves to obtain the probable cause warrant.

I wonder if Bolton ever asks himself whether leading the "Brooks Brothers Riot" was a good idea.
Hmm, I read reports that placed current CJ John Roberts at the scene, but not sure about Bolton.

Ya gotta love that this is happening to Bolton, one of the evilest MFers to ever live. What ye sow so shall ye reap.

Update!

I’m not sure there was a majority for no fine.
