I still don't get how Grump can freeze billions already appropriated by congress for Harvard or any other university, for that matter? I thought "rescission"-ing already appropriated funds was blocked pending another unconstitutional greenlight from SCOTUS? Anyway, I can't keep up. And this is not the way to run a country remains my carefully considered opinion. Thanks for keeping me posted about the unfolding disaster.
Surely the WaPo article cited about some 600-member "mobile National Guard unit", a sort of anti-protest flying squad that's said to be "under discussion", was totally on point, as it summarized military actions in and around L.A. and Southern California, plus the DC bullshit into one coherent scenario.
Now, if the current bench trial in the San Francisco courtroom of District Judge Charles Breyer ultimately finds against the government for violations of the Administrative Practices and/or the Posses Comitatus Acts, tRump will immediately file an "emergency" appeal to Scotus to stay any and all prohibitions on the use of the military in purely domestic policing functions. And if form follows, he'll get that stay, and continue sending armed military hither and yon until EVENTUALLY his actions reach Scotus on the merits, after more protracted court cases.
Bottom line: The military busting up anti-tRump protests are a coming reality, bank it.
That WaPo item immediately caught my attention as well. He already has his ICE private army. One would think that would be enough. This Quick Reaction Force is just another turn of the screw in his ongoing effort to suppress dissent everywhere
I don't want to seem a Doomer but how long will we have to wait until democrat politicians are being picked up off the streets or in town hall meetings and peaceful protestors clubbed and beaten by these new "Lawkeepers?"
The WaPo article, and Trump’s own vow that DC is just the start, convince me that dismissing the DC takeover as benign and merely performative is dangerous. In LA and DC the precedents have been set for Trump’s paramilitary aspirations.
The worst case is this is practice for the “emergency” when he declares the 26 midterms are rigged and he needs to send in the troop to “protect” the election in a few key big cities. What’s to stop him from doing that for say 48 hours around an election window?
He told his supporters 24 was the last election they needed to worry about. There is every sign he will stop at nothing to make good on his word.
Kurtz, the reality show allegory is quite appropiate, sadly enough; nice piece of writing, except for the glaring syntactical error in 1st paragraph. When you state, "villain who taps into racist, mysoginistic;", etc, you are denoting that the presumed villain promotes the racism, misogynism, etc. ,when what you mean is quite different. It should instead read like this: ...Trump confronting a clearly defined villain while exploiting the racist, mysoginistic, xenophobic beliefs of many of his supporters...
Same strategy, deny, deflect, distract so we move on from the Epstein files because Trump enjoyed being a playboy alongside Epstein. And Epstein probably kept records and videos. So yeah, take over Washington DC, no one’s outside there anyway.
Is this DC deployment of the national guard the first step in a P2025 plan to normalize having the miltary apparent in everyday life? Trump spoke about hoping the states would do the same thing. And I'm sure many of them are salivating t the thought, whie the rose who are reluctrant could be coerced in some creatve way by Bondi/Miller et al.
Thank you David.

Agree completely
