If Rethuglicans weren’t so corrupt, they wouldn’t fear retribution by tRump, the Mobster Boss. A Village Voice article on tRump noted in a 1970’s article quoting a contractor (who wished to remain anonymous, recognizing tRump’s capacity for vengeance) : “Trump won’t do a deal unless there’s something extra — a kind of moral larceny — in it. He’s not satisfied with a profit. He has to take something more. Otherwise, there’s no thrill.”

That’s old school mafia. Organized crime syndicates are built on this, and the RNC has succumbed to mobster rule.

Do read in its entirety the DCC three-judge panel's opinion in denying the Orange Gobshite's claim of "absolute immunity"...it is so compelling in its constitutional arguments, and that it cited chapter and verse the SC's 4-count indictment, the facts of which "are presumed true", and that it was a unanimous decision with no separate concurring or dissenting opinions, that it is *unlikely* that SCOTUS will grant cert, IMHO.

BTW, a lot of attention in the final opinion was given to the American Oversight's Amicus curiae, that tried to make a jurisdictional case for remanding without hearing the appeal back to the district court for further development of tRump's motions. Much discussion of "interlocutory judgment" and "collateral-order" for those who wish to delve deeper into the actual "appealability" of tRump's motion to an appellate court, but the panel argued conclusively for hearing on appeal, and here we are.

In passing, the ONLY reason that SCOTUS would grant cert is if four or five justices felt that there was a LEGITIMATE case for absolute immunity bequeathed to former presidents for crimes committed whilst holding office. Even on this Court, that consensus doesn't exist, so, see ya in court, bub.

What the Dems are doing looks like the GOP shooting themselves in the feet. Which, given that the Democrats are less a party than a coalition of conflicts.

But that leads to a fun fact from the 2020 cycle: down ballot Republicans — candidates for Congress — performed better than the party’s POTUS candidate. So clearly getting closer to him is likely to be a winner. Just kidding. If 2020 is past/prologue, well, all the buzz about the GOP increasing their seats in Congress… well, whatever those people are on, gimme some. (Usual caveats: I have no faith in the American voter and, of course, time will tell how this plays out.)

I mean, too, holding off on addressing that crisis on the Texas-Mex border cannot be addressed for a year. Outside of Trump supporters and the complicit media, whose bullshit detectors wouldn’t be triggered?

The preceding is in no way meant as a case for being sanguine.
