I defend Mayor Bass’ decision to show up and confront. I know you don’t possibly think it’s bad optics because she’s a black woman. If someone does, such as an Axelrad, Carville or Plouffe, that’s why no one pays attention to them any more. Every Trump travesty must be confronted, picking battles isn’t an option any more and I’m grateful to Bass and Newsom for standing up for their city. There’s going to be a lot more of this, and being too cool has been proven a losing strategy.
This is a probe, an experiment, to see how far they need to push in order to stir up some level of civil unrest. The goal, I think, is to invoke martial law just prior to the 2026 midterms and thereby cancel them.
Greg Bovino brags that he’s in charge of the military occupation of Los Angeles and the troops will go anywhere the hell they want and tough shit on everyone here. So who is his boss? Does he have the right to invade homes, schools, businesses, churches, gyms, mosques and synagogues? Does he have a warrant or is the prohibition against search and seizure without one no longer part of the constitution? How much did this invasion cost? Did he inflict terror? Did they have probable cause? Can we expect this terror everywhere from Trump’s militias? Where are the lawyers? Where is the legislature? Is this Nazi Germany redux?

To your last question, the answer is yes. But our homegrown Fourth Reich is a clumsy pale imitation. Thank God
