The Scotus majority is full-on "We don't care, do U?" mode with its destruction of minority — largely Black — voting districts, overriding their own decisions only three years old in a reckless and haphazard manner. *Purcell* "standards" are essentially meaningless, EXCEPT when it concerns or favors Democratic Party actions affecting voting. I mean, this corrupt lot are serving as their own agents of the Court's collapse from an impartial body into an assemblage of "political hacks", despite some Justices forever arguing otherwise.
"Watch what they do, rather than what they say"...verdict: Guilty as charged.
This post has had me trotting though AI for an hour or so. Keeping in mind that AI can be misleading, it DOES look like Congress has the ability (if not the will) to correct some of the abuses we see in this post. In particular, it CAN put some constraints on the use of grand jury subpoenas, which are pretty wide ranging at the moment--including some changing of norms the DOJ is ignoring into statutes. And it CAN if carefully worded codify the Purcell principal.
A retired attorney, it's unfathomable how law schools today are educating their students. Must be ditching instruction about ethics. Criminal Law 101 - Black or Poor Defendants? Criminal Law 102 - White Liberals? Kleptocrats and billionaires have immunity from such. This is proof that even ribald cynicism will not get you through today.
Do we think that they don’t know they are committing violations of the Code of Professional Responsibility? Because 2/3 of the former Department of Justice and USAs across the country have resigned because they were being asked to violate the Code. Those would be their peers.
Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he regards freedom of the press as nothing more than a hurdle to be smashed in his endless fight to undermine both democracy and freedom.
I keep getting a whiff of Tricky Dick Nixon every now and then from this administration. So many bad things now were let’s say sparked by Nixon…
Re Sarcone: A nearby town (village, technically) has a Substack that’s kind of obsessed with him. If they post anything likable about that disciplinary thing maybe I’ll remember to provide a link.
Anyway, circling back to the chilling of the press:
Firstly, that hiding everything behind a gratuitous labeling national security is one of those Nixon initiatives IIRC.
But there’s something almost LOL here. The reporting that arguably would be a concern is the reporting that’s magnitudes more honest than the targeted mainstream — Substacks, blogs, other niche outlets — all of which seem off of the administration’s radar. So, sure, hassle those who can fight back or bribe Donny as the case may be and ignore the outlets doing the real work.
And finally, re the latest screwing around of the Roberts junta: suffice to say, it should only be expected and they showed their true colors many years ago. Sorry that people are still struggling to learn the unhidden truth…

Reading TPM and One First on the regular made John Oliver’s segment slightly boring. Thanks for keeping us informed!
For something more interesting, see Oliver's show from the prior week, where he covered gas station drugs in detail.

A new Congress after 2028-9 has a LOT to do
Kari Lake’s career is likely a product of the anti-DEI push: jobs for incompetent white insiders.

I predict there is going to be a Reichstag leak given to some reporter in the near future so they can go after their publication
I think, after all these stupid SCOTUS shadow docket discrimination
rulings, there's a very big FAFO coming.
DoiJ is an illegal bureau at this point. Blanche most likely already has another country with no US extradition setup for his escape.
A. it is not good but also B. wsj et. al. asked for it and now they have it.
