The treatment of ChongLy Scott Thao, the Hmong man taken in his underwear, epitomizes why whatever recruitment ICE is using is choosing, the Crispy Gnome's words, the Worst of the Worst. Apparently all Asians look alike to them. So if you have a warrant for one, just arrest any Asian in sight. We are likely to see more of these "errors" with other people of color. The fact that Gnome thinks this is a valid excuse for the treatment of Saly shows everything that is wrong with ICE.
Trump’s threats have already killed NATO. A shooting war between the US and any number of NATO troops, no matter how small, would make NATO-minus-the-US an enemy of America as long as MAGA is in control. Beyond Trump’s insanity, the outcome of this standoff may hinge on whether US troops are willing to murder Danish soldiers and civilians. After seeing how they went along with targeting boats (& killing survivors—the literal textbook example of a war crime) in the Caribbean and invading Venezuela, would anyone bet on the US military doing the right thing at this point?

Today's newsletter describes in detail how the enforcement arm of ICE, Enforcement and Removal Operations, or ERO, is staffed by poorly educated, poorly trained personnel, who are operating under a remit that currently demands "quantity over quality" in arrests, where the "worst of the worst" immigrants represent only single-digit percentage of the total haul, and BY DESIGN.
