I read Sen. Murphy’s thread and it’s recommended. I think he’s correct.
It also touches on the idea of Big Business uniting to somehow undo the harm they’ve done is giving any support to Trump in the last election etc., etc., etc.
Murphy’s theory essentially is that the tariffs will result in individual business paying him off for relief from tariffs.
My decades-long theory was that Donny sought Roy Cohn to learn how to manage a business like a mafia godfather without actually, you know, doing crime.
And that’s how he’s acting as POTUS — and still no one with power particularly interested in applying the rule of law, right Roberts court?
JPMorgan just put out a dire note-to-clients, calling tRump tariffs essentially a game-changer, and forecasts potentially a global recession...OK, now, who heads up JPM? Yes, of course, good ol' Jamie Dimon, who just a few months ago said any fears he had about a second tRump regime have been banished, and Dimon feels that the good times will continue.
Oi, Jamie...Jamie, mate, where the fuck are you? Oi, no comments or interviews?
I tend to go with Murphy’s theory over anything Dimon says.
But it raises the still-unanswered question: How did essentially none of our leaders in both the public and private sectors not see any of Trump’s insanity coming? I mean, his handling of Covid, J6 and the insanity he’s spewed the last five years should have been signs…
There's Sen. Murphy's theory, as you've summarised, and then there is Murphy's Law, which simply states that "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."...which in fact describes perfectly tRump 2.0 actions to date, and is indeed richly confirmed and boldly punctuated by the tariffs FUBAR....QED.
I know it's too soon for inflation to have ticked up because of the tariffs. But today, here in Central NY, gas was up 2 cents a gallon--that is since Tuesday. Since last Thursday, the California olive oil I buy was up $4, yogurt $.30. Are the tariffs in cases such as these merely an excuse to raise prices? Trump voters said inflation influenced their votes. Now Trump is saying he doesn't care and that Americans will suck up the increases. Of course he's delusional about this and much else.
Not too soon. Greedflation jumps at every opportunity.
Sadly, the diehard MAGA cult members will view this as a necessary sacrifice for the imaginary future "golden age" that is coming. Maybe it causes at least a few Trump voters to snap out of it.
Please tell me it's no more than an "Art of The Deal" negotiating ploy, and the daft twat will call it off as soon as the affected parties clamor for a dinner invite at MAL and agree to drastically lower tariffs on all US goods, and more importantly, toss in ca. $1bn/country "contribution" to the "tRump Liberry", and a like amount for purchasing several $trump " meme-coins".
Wait, you're saying NO, and mean that this shite is on, for real? Jaysus help us!
At least Justice Bradley had the decency to refer to it as the "Democratic Party" - rare in this Age of Trump (unless Bulwark cleaned it up for her). Maybe there's hope for civility in Wisconsin after all.
It must be dispiriting and nauseating to report all this. Thank you for doing it anyway.
"make America gilded again" = a public service. Thank you.

It was all about the tax cuts
I’m with Murphy and extortion, but time will tell.
A question for the ages: Why did they not disbelieve in tRump?
Trump is giving the party what they’ve wanted for nearly a century: The return to the 1890s.
The problem is that Donny does *everything* in the shittiest way possible.
And the shittiness will surely have costs.
So the anticipation of achieving party goals blinds them that there I’ll have a regrettable cost.

Excellent; thanks so much for having a strong stomach and great writing skills

"...wondering about Trump’s motives..." Narcissistic psychopath. It really is time to call it what it is.
