MM is often the first thing I read in the AM, as well as TPM with breakfast. I enjoy it very much.

A suggestion as you dive deeper into White Christian Nationalism and anti-anti-semitism...how about a focus on that notorious self-hating Jewish fascist -- Stephen Miller?

Parallel to MM: HR "budget" bill - now in Senate - will also require Ms cut from MEDICARE and cancel the federal courts' powers to order injunctive relief. Yet people talk about the [Nov.] '26

mid-terms.

Hope there are midterms and if held, the administration accepts the results, and if they don't accept the results it doesn't all go to litigation until the sun burns down or 2028 or whichever comes first.

Christian nationalism lurks behind everything they do. See this essay I wrote about OMB Director Russell Vought's background and aspirations: https://www.theregreview.org/2025/05/08/steinzor-the-man-behind-the-trump-deregulatory-throne/

"Welcome To The White Christian Nationalist Presidency"

Lemme fix that for you: "Welcome to the Nazi Party of Der Trumpenfuehrer."

And to condense today's entire article: "Nazis gonna Nazi, and these nazis are really nazi-ing now.

Re: the South Sudan deportation flights and the Judge Murphy reaction:

"Over objections from the migrants’ counsel, Murphy ordered that deportees would remain abroad somewhere in U.S. custody and be given all of the due process remotely that they had been entitled to receive before their unlawful removals."

Now, really, how in god's name is this order to be carried out by THIS regime? And how will the court even enforce it? I mean, DHS can just simply LIE about "given all the due process..." as it has done all along in ALL the court cases to date, and then what?

All of these unfortunates transported to third-country destinations are lost for good, and let's not deceive ourselves on that score.

Right as usual Lance; what you say is the sad truth.

My thoughts exactly. It’s all just empty blah blah blah coming from these judges as far as I am concerned. This regime is murderous and the body count will be high. There is nothing uglier than a religious war.

Outrageous that 16 democrats voted yes on the crypto bill. They should not be voting with Republicans on anything. Not as long as we are in full authoritarian Mode. We should not tolerate masked ice agents picking people up off the streets just on the say so of traitors like Kristi Noem. So far I don't think the trump administration has identified one person it wants to deport who has a criminal record

Hegseth’s “prayer service”: The leaven of Herod is everything with this person.

In all fairness, there has never been complete separation of church and state in this country. Witness the House of Representatives chaplain who opens sessions with a hopefully non-denominational prayer. But in truth the zealots always want more, are ever on the attack and would make America a theocracy were they able. Hegseth's pastor was the latest of these misguided crew and declaring Trump divinely appointed is a giant step back to the age of god-kings. David is correct.

I was coming at this conduct from the opposite side: scripture. (Interesting that the christian nationalists think that dismissing the Constitution is their death blow) There’s an actual verse from scripture, and not from Paul or one of the prophets, but Jesus, himself, telling the people to guard against the leaven of Herod. Don’t get excited or motivated by political power, is my understanding.

So state and religion are a bad mix, a disastrous mix

Agree unreservedly! It's a mix people have been trying to prevent since before civilization began I suspect. Love your use of the quote from Jesus.. also maybe the 'render unto Cæsar..' quote would work too.

Trump-era defining phrases we will neither forget nor forgive:

1st Term - "They're not here to hurt me"

2nd Term - "White Afrikaner Refugees"

So we are the point yet where proper framing of reporting about court rulings adverse to Trump are overwhelmingly ignored by him?

I’m getting, like, bored by the inference that they’re anywhere near as effective as they should be normally. And then, of course, there’s the Robert’s court…

Dave, like you I alternate between hope and fear. But despite that oscillation I am convinced that the courts are the only thing holding back this evil tide of fascism.

But what if the administration simply chooses to stop paying even token deference to the courts? What if it simply ignores them? A constitutional crisis, sure. But that's just an alarm bell that has no clapper. In the world of realpolitik these nazi wannabes inhabit, they could stop playing the democratic game whenever they choose. What then?

Hmmm... let me see... Trump shamed SA's president for allowing the drawn out massacres of white farmer families... going on for decades now... but he is the fascist? Call me gobsmacked.
