Thank you SO much for the Reggie Jackson YouTube interview link. Wow, it brought tears, especially that it's Reggie Jackson, for all the reasons you mentioned. His words resonate so powerfully, thank you.

Our cable was out last night!!

I'd planned to watch this game because of various reasons: Willie Mays, we've visited Rickwood Field some years back, I'm a baseball fan, I can't watch the Braves now, yada, yada. Anyway, finally, did see Reggie Jackson, but in the booth about the 4th inning. This is the history that Republicans don't want students to learn. Thanks, Reggie for saying this💔❤️💔🤐

Well, at least your car wasn't totaled by some MAGAt who identified it. :-)

(sorry to say that stuff does happen)

I wrote a commentary for Raw Story on why Aileen Cannon should step away from the trial back in March. https://www.rawstory.com/judge-aileen-cannon-trump-trial/.

The good news now -- though it won't make a different with respect to documents trial matriculating before the election -- is that should Cannon on any one, two, or three of her decisions to so once again in a biased direction for Trump, then Smith can appeal these.

Re: MLB and the Negro League...ironically enough, this year's collective roster of all 30 MLB teams show the lowest number of Black players in decades. Football and basketball are drawing away young Black talent, and they are being replaced by Caribbean and So. American players coming out of youth "academies" purpose-built to develop major-league talent.

Sign of the times, I guess.

I do not accept that Judge Cannon is less than "qualified". She has been very careful in her rulings so as not to give Smith an avenue to appeal to possibly get it overruled and give him an avenue to ask for her removal. She is all in for t***p and will stay on this case as long as she can. One way or the other I expect her to dismiss this case at the point where Smith can do nothing about it.

Mad respect David thank you! Being Bay Area adjacent I was aware of the game in Birmingham. And I really appreciate your comments on the South. I was just talking with a friend who moved away from here to Orlando and then quickly came back a year later. Sadly her parents stayed. I knew they were a fan of the show Top Gear and recommended to them the US Special episode where the gang do their usual pranks and challenges abroad leading up to hilarity. Only this time it’s in Alabama and Florida. Jeremy Clarkson said it was one of the scariest moments of his life. And these guys have done some harrowing things! I don’t know what else to say.

Aileen Cannon [sigh]...it is what it is, way too late for any remedying. Her tutors are managing her conduct perfectly: doing just enough to grind down the case to near-zero movement to an actual trial date, all the while doing so without risking an appeal on the law by SC Smith.

A bit of genius, really, when you think about it.

Re Cannon: I cannot believe that there isn't some internal means for replacing an assigned judge. Or to elaborate: maybe there isn't any such system but I have to see it to believe.

As for the leak, I might actually be willing to believe that it came from someone who wants to encourage her to dig in her heels even more re staying on the case and doing she can to benefit the defendant.

Me, since Cannon really wants the case tried in the media and public discourse, it's really incumbent on Smith to drop a superseding indictment alleging the treasonous sharing (ITKWIM) of state secrets. OTOH, time may be up. Of course things would be different with an opposition party that opposed -- a choice, not an echo* -- and media willing to do all appropriate honest reporting but with haven't been that kind of nation for decades. (*h/t as always Team Goldwater.)

BTW: I can continue and be yet more depressing but this isn't the day for it.
