Re: "Global tipping point" report and COP 28...Gulf States, their autocratic leaders, and the vast armada of petro-lobbyists are staging a huge pushback against "phase-out" of fossil fuels, rather they are falling back on the unproven at-scale carbon dioxide sequestering pitch, i.e., we can still have our oil but without the emissions consequences...unmitigated rubbish, but an accurate reflection of where Big Oil and their respective governments stand on the planetary climate emergency.
How old are you? Back in the 70s, there were a lot more Archie Bunkers. This show helped change that (it very definitely did NOT "suck"). Maude did the same thing for feminism. If you weren't around then, it might be harder to understand why people watched, but it shouldn't be impossible to put yourself in that situation.
65. I watched and liked Maude even though I was most definitely not the target audience. Same as The Jeffersons. But what can I say AITF really rubbed me the wrong way. The Edith character especially was ridiculously egregiously horrible and painful to watch. I simply hated the Archie character. I never understood why or how he was so revered.
I appreciate your writings but I have to take issue with the sentence that includes “before Donald Trump is elected to a second term.” Is it a foregone conclusion? Are there actions we citizens can take now? I think those are the most important things to talk about at this perilous moment in history.

Archie Bunker was an unrepentant racist sexist bigot. The show sucked.
The whole point of the show was to show exactly how horrible his behavior was. Sorry you missed it.
I get it but why would I want to watch that?

It clearly wasn't the show for you. Nothing wrong with that. But it doesn't mean others didn't have the right to get something from it.

Not a foregone conclusion, and the ultimate accountability moment will be the 2024 election. Do with that what you will!
We have a choice in 2024.
Freedom or Dictatorship.
