The opening essay is why I have been so disconcerted by Astead Herndon’s latest episode of The Run-Up podcast. Amid many astute observations by thoughtful people, it also had some men saying they liked Trump’s masculinity as evidenced by this being true to his word (!) and his anti-LGBTQ stances (!!). Since listening to it yesterday—I had been putting it off for fear of where it would go—I have been self-soothing by telling myself there will always be foolish and uninformed voters. But even the wise voices in the episode were more concerned with what’s-in-it-for-us policies than with the decision between democracy and no democracy. I fear the issue is so big that casual citizens will think we’re exaggerating and catastrophizing, and dismiss our warnings.
There is no real rule of law and there never has been. There's one set of laws for the likes of George Floyd and Breona Taylor and Tamir Rice and I could go on and on and on and another for the likes of tangeranus and the slobbering horde he sent to storm the Capitol.
I am always sad when I hit the bottom of my TPM😅
Thank you TPM for reminding us all why it's so very important to VOTE BLUE in 2024, with today's Trumpism
refresher.
