Thanks again David for another good MM. Not sure what Cannon's up to and I don't think even she knows. I see the 11th circuit in her future. As for the DC Trump/Lauro shenanigans, I do see a lot of court action. Smith is going for ALL of it, thus the still 2 grand juries still in session, subpoenas being sent and ten to one, indictments to follow. Have a grand day.
Re Trump’s court delays: IMO, the worst thing possible is a trial before the election in which FPOTUS is acquitted. (The sole exception, maybe, is the New York one.)
Far better would be Trump delaying all the trials. In this way, the accusations keep getting play in the media right up to Election Day. That in turn would be a constant reminder to voters that, incredibly, Trump’s more fit for office than he was in 2015, to say the least.
Add to that this: every case (again maybe except New York) has to be tried -- no copping a plea possible. Part of the Trump “brand” is never, ever admitting he was wrong. My favorite example of that is ~20 years after the fact, he continued to claim the Central Park 5 were guilty.
Unless he’s re-elected and pardons himself (and SCOTGOP rules in his favor if it comes to that), he’ll be forcing trials in all the cases.
I’m grateful for your summary. I’m really curious if you have any insights to the DOJ investigations and potential indictments of members of Congress who were all in on the scheme to throw out the will of the voters.
Sorry, but no special insight there. We haven't seen much in the way of overt investigative steps directed toward MoC, with the notable exception of the seizure of Rep. Scott Perry's phone. Charging MoC with crimes related to the certification does present some pretty thorny separation of powers issues. So my hunch is it's going to take more than the vote not to certify the results to sustain criminal charges. But this doesn't look like a focus of Smith's right now, based on what is publicly known.
Thank you for responding. All I remember being reported was SC Smith announcing in Jan 2023 his appointment of Ray Hulser and David Harbach to investigate Members of Congress

I don't get why everyone just assumes if orangehead gets elected he can just make all this go away. Even our allies just throw up their hands.
