Thanks for the links to the Ganz and Marshall articles. I have long thought that Hamas's goal was not really to destroy Israel--the raid was nowhere close to being able to do that. The goal was to create a predictable backlash and influence international opinion, and in this, a propaganda goal, it has been remarkably successful.
There is no question that peace in the Middle East requires "destruction" of Hamas. But what exactly does "destroy" mean? Simply killing off the members seems to present the problem of the Hydra head. I agree that getting them out of control of Gaza, by whatever means, is the priority. What is needed is "destruction of its ability to marshal the military forces now available to them. Suicide bombers may continue. But not missiles.
