"Our country owes them a debt of gratitude for their unwavering service and dedication to the rule of law."
"Rule of law"...has there ever been a term, indeed the cornerstone of a democratic society, that has been *more honored in the breach than in its observance* ? Aside from a few judges and prosecutors, the bulk of those allegedly tasked with defending the proposition have manifestly failed, and failed badly. The US Senate, the Supreme Court, many in the legal profession who sold out their oaths to gain favor and remunerations from tRump...such a sorry recital of misfeasance and malfeasance that history will surely look upon poorly.
And it's not even over yet, as we stand upon the threshold of four more years of sheer criminality and open traducing of "the rule of law", aided and abetted by the same actors that enabled the reduction of the concept to "quaintness", something simply unfashionable and allowed to fall into desuetude, with eyes wide shut, as it were. So much shame to be handed out amongst so many people and institutions.
Query: I understand why the full MAL report can’t be released, but is an appropriately redacted version impossible — other than because of the cowardice and/or disinterest of those who could do same.
Smith and Garland both concluded releasing it would violate DOJ guidelines, and even if you don't agree with that assessment, I strongly suspect an appropriately redacted version would only include what is already known from court filings, so it wouldn't really advance the ball.
A single report beats court filings for people who might bother to look up this stuff. Too, court filings at the least aren’t as easy to read as a well written report.
But it comes down to your first point, more or less: norms no longer matter and if that’s Biden and Garland’s position, it’s just their way of saying they don’t give a fuck. Which judging from Democratic action in Congress last week is in fact the DNC’s position.
It is Andrew Weissmann's stated position that it is a "mistake" for Biden not to release an appropriately redacted "Volume II". For example, verbatim Grand Jury testimony should not be released.
But, per Andrew there is "a lot of information" that should be released directly relevant to scheduled hearings specifically calling out "KASH PATEL".
For all you not in LA, despite the news reports to the contrary about "winds whistling through the region," there have been no Santa Ana winds. It has been dead calm (well, a bit of a "breeze" that ruffles the little plants) from Hidden Hills just north of the west end of the Palisades fire to La Crescenta a few miles west of the Altadena fire, according to friends I have repeatedly emailed throughout the day. The calm is the same as it was yesterday, also despite press warnings of Encino - where I live - being "threatened." I don't know which reality the media is living in, but it's not the one anyone I know is also living in.
Bravo to Jack Smith and his
teams for their hard work
over the last 2 years. I wish
them all safety and peace in
their futures.
Thank you David, again, for
your opening remarks.
Hoping for much calmer
Santa Ana winds. I lived in
CA for 10 years and we all
dreded these winds, but they
were never this extreme.
I take some comfort in the fact that Trump is a convicted felon x 34.

Thanks for the reply, David.
